“Poverty Affects Us All!” – Convened by the North Bay Social Planning Council. More than 50 local community representatives came together in the morning of Tuesday, February 26 and another 65 attended an evening meeting at the Royal Canadian legion, Branch 23 in North Bay to hear and discuss a presentation on Common Priorities in a Policy Framework for Poverty Reduction in Ontario, delivered by Marvyn Novick, SPNO Consultant.Janet Gasparini, SPNO Chair and Sudbury City Councillor, talked about local poverty reduction strategies and action taken in Sudbury. The evening meeting also highlighted the voices of the North Bay Parents Action Committee – Bonnie Risser talking about the life of a single parent on low income. Tiffany Nunner, Volunteer Coordinator of the RideShare program, introduced a ten minute DVD of a subsidized transportation program for low income parents and children planned and set up by the North Bay PAC as part of the SPNO Kids & Community Project. A Nipissing District Provincial Consultation Working Group (PCWG) was struck on February 26 and held a first meeting with Peter Clutterbuck, SPNO Coordinator on February 27 to prepare an outline for a coordinated community presentation for the provincial consultations.
